| The
Mayan River waters at the foot of steep limestone walls that allow floating
divers or snorkelers to view birds, tiny crabs and the flora of the rocky
walls. The Mayan River may be better suited for families with younger
children, who between the ages of 3-5 are sometimes frightened by the
lasting semi-darkness of the Underground River. A good hint for the claustrophobic
persons never go on such a voyage. However, the Mayan River has less
natural flow than the other, bringing you at times to dive and swim and
making your journey somewhat more grueling. So that should not look like
vacations adventures but they can be compared with accelerated march.
I got a useful hint from my close friend few years ago. She told me about
Xcaret’s third river system, which is called the Paradise River.
It was opened in 2004 to organize those who can not swim and wants be
toured on a small guided float. The visitors get the opportunity to flow
quietly through a botanical garden, mushroom farm, and aquaculture zone
for raising tilapia (a kind of table fish). In the busy winter vacation
season 6,000 guests arrive daily there. Xcaret organizes fascinating
and extraordinary educational activities that have got the slogan “the
ecological theme park”. They set swimming with dolphins, snorkeling
in a lagoon, studying a Reef Aquarium or a hydroponic garden, viewing
animal exhibits, joining a guided tour, trying the new quasi-scuba pastimes
of Sea Trek. Throughout the vacation voyage is an informative one, a
live narration is provided by an experienced co-pilot who would be happy
to answer any questions of the visitors. There is an important hint for
lovers of missing. You should not forget your cameras for a once-in-a-lifetime
glance into this wonderful underwater world. After your 40-minute voyage
the submarine will resurface where the ferry vessel is waiting to return
to the ticket office. My husband and I are the only non-scuba divers
in the family, but we didn't want to miss out on the undersea wonders
of Riviera Maya. We certainly achieved our goal! We even saw the wall
better than our scuba diving daughters. It was an experience of a lifetime,
not to be missed. The staff was very knowledgeable about the ocean and
sea creatures in this area. This was a fun trip. We felt like we were
at an IMAX theater - but it was real. Saw sharks and a barracuda! These
vacations became the most impressing for our family! Don't be afraid
of such voyages. |
